Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya·BarcelonaTech and a Degree in Economics from the UB. Master in Science and Technology Management UPC. Entrepreneurship program MIT Sloan School of Management.
I am Professor of Management at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya·BarcelonaTech. I'm also in charge of the academic direction of the Valorization Unit (which includes the Innova Program for Entrepreneurship and the Patent Office) and the UPC Research and Innovation Park.
Among other academic activities, I am part of the Scientific Council of the École Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Industrielles et des Mines of Ales (France) and part of the Board of the School of Public Administration of Catalonia. I did stays as a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Quebec (Canada), Aix en Provence and the Sorbonne University (France). And I have published over 200 books and articles on Creativity and Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Regional Economics, Industrial and Technological Policy and Universities Management. More recently, I am an expert of the European Commission RIS3 (Smart Specialisation Strategies).
I participate actively in the board of several foundations, including CyD Foundation, of which I am Vice President, the ExE Foundation, the Von Mises Institute in Barcelona, Barcelona Global, etc..
Throughout my career I have been recognized with some awards, such as:
• Joan Sardà Prize in Economics, 1995.
• Doctor Honoris Causa by the Belarus State Economic University, 1998.
• Narcis Monturiol Medal of Merit in Science and Technology by the Government of Catalonia,2007.
• National Tourism Award of the Spanish Government, 2011.
From a personal standpoint I own the Restaurant 7 Portes, which is 177 years old, since over six generations of my mother's family have dedicated themselves to the world of gastronomy.
